Anyone use a tach or temp. gauge on small (9.9hp) outboard?

Just finished up the installation of my late 80's Nissan 9.9 with electric start, steering, and controls on my 17' basstracker. (The lake I fish is restricted to 10hp, and 9.9's are the big dogs, he-he.)

I was curious to see if any other boaters used a tach or temp. gauge to monitor a small motor like mine. Is it smart/necessary? Also, is it hard on these small motors to run them at WOT for lengthy periods of time (Hoover reservoir is pretty large for 10hp) or should I be only running at about 3/4 throttle?

Just want to prolong the life of my motor for as long as possible. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I use a Tiny-Tach on my outboards, it will display the RPM and the engine hours. There is NO reason why your outboard should not be able to run at full throttle for long periods of time, two strokes like running wot anyway.

run that motor wide open alll day long!!! i have a 5hp nissan single cylinder that i used to run WOT for hours at a time... you can try to kill a 2 stroke nissan/tohatsu, but you cant...., unless it falls of your boat into the lake , like mine did... but any way........ or better yet, give ME your nissan and ill give you my 15hp evinrude..i repainted the hood solid blue with no decals, just add some 9.9 stickers and ....... :)

Thanks Mike - but I really like my motor - just don't have a lot of experience with it yet. But thanks for the confidence in Nissan motors.

BTW - it was raining last night, so I was afraid to take the digital camera out to snap pics of the T&R Clamp. Things look clear now, so with weather permitting I'll be sending you some pics soon.
