I'd like to add a transom trolling motor to my 16ss, just curious if anyone has done this and if 55# will be enough to push it around.

Interested in this as well... Over 55lb would require a 24v system. I think it would work okay, just be interested in how long a battery might last, but other variables would come into play also.

The one i am considering is the Traxxis, and it has the digital maximizer, i'm hoping that will help with battery life. using the guide on minn kota's site i think the 36" shaft will best fit mine.

For what it's worth, I have a 50 lb Minnkota on the transom of my 18' mariner. With no wind or current I can get about 1.2 mph. But it does nothing against the wind.

I have a Traxxis 55# coming tomorrow. I'll install this weekend and report back.

No experience with transom mount but, a MotorGuide wireless 55 on the bow of my 18 Holiday I trolled 14 hours total in two days with a 104 amp hr AGM battery and still had 12.2 volts. It will handle up to about a 15-20 k wind then it gets to hard to hold it on course, a transom mount is even worse in a wind for holding a course. Just my 2 cents.

Got the trolling motor installed and it works pretty good. i was fishing a creek connected to Erie with still areas and a channel that has some current, got up to 2.5 in some areas, but mostly in the 2 range. had some head wind and still did pretty good
