Anyone used PL Urethane for this??

Have read with much interest the uses for PL Urethane adhesive. I am impressed enough to plan to use it to laminate the 2 3/4" plywood sheets for the transom.

Wood to wood I know this stuff STICKS!

How does it stick to other material? Fiberglass? Is is a suitable material to fasten a glassed (poly resin) deck to the glassed stringers? How about the mating of the deck to the hull along the edges? Will it be strong enough to attach the transom to the outershell?

The last question may be significant as the transom has to be "bent" back flat at the outdrive cutout. The concern that the jacking and measuring before the poly would set in 95 degree heat is probably not going to happen. Using the PL for the transom installation would give me some working time and assure that the transom would end up flat again. The transom would then be glassed over and attached on the inside in a "normal" manner.

All thoughts and comments are appreciated.

I needed a place to mount my battery selector switch near my console. I decided the best place to mount it would be against the hull just below and forward of my control box.

I obviously couldn't screw it into the hull at that point so I cut two pieces of PVC molding and affixed them to the side of the hull with PL. After about 2 days of curing I couldn't pry those off if I wanted to. The inside of the hull is fiberglass painted over with stone textured spraypaint.

I glued down my deck, which was epoxy sealed plywood, to my glass coated stringers with PL premium.

Works great as long as the surfaces to be attached are clean.

this is a total transom glued with PL 100% poly. i even made a splash well with stiffened the transom. use a notch trowel, like for ceramic tile. when wood was finished, i coated with poly, then use the notch trowel, and PL, cover the wood, and the outer shell, and clamped. then built up any void around the edge, and glassed in the edges. that was a year ago. no problems.

I have used it for my transom 2 pieces and also to bed my stringers. I got pics of the transom construction in a link below but not my stringers yet. I used it to laminate my stringers together as well as i used 2 sheets of ply together for the stringers. The wood will break apart before the bond will. That stuff is unbelieveable!!!

Thanks all for the replys!

This makes me a lot more confident. It looks like there will be a lot of PL used in the next couple of weeks. Deck to hull and stringers and transom. Will be a lot easier and probably more likely successful. Was dreading the speed at which I would have to get the transom in place and adjusted. This will make that a lot more comfortable.

Thanks
