so after a year of on again off again efforts ands more money than I car to share my project boat is finished all broken things now work all rotted wood replaced and im proud. first thing i do is obviously take my buddies out on the lake to show off my boat resto skills and my shiny new boat. all the sudden the carpet is getting waterlogged progressivly from the left side to the right so my first instinct is leak! i look the through the hatch at the transom end of my boat and theres no water? im stumped the water isnt being splashed in or anything and i watched it travel across the carpet. after a few minutes of driving at full throttle the carpet was no longer soaked still damp but not puddling so how is this possible? anyplace I should check and whats the best way withouth pulling out the carpet and interior to try and locate the leak? thanks josh

Check around your rub rail and deck seam, it may be splashing in through the seam. If the carpet is wet only from above deck, it's got to be an above deck leak.

yep. the seam between the cap and hull. just had the same problem with my 23' Chris Craft deckboat. solved by just caulking around the seam.

The above is correct if you were taking on water while the boat was running at a certain speed (fast enough to shoot water up the hull side, but not fast enough for it to spray away from the hull). You don't say whether your were standing still or moving when you saw the water.
