Re: anything better than a raker

alot of the answer to that question lies with what hull we're talking about.
In "most" cases, I'd say yes, there are faster props.
Dhadley and myself ran into a situation with 2 simular boat/engine combos that the Raker was proving to be hard to beat...I think we were both a bit perplexed at this finding, but as a general rule, this isn't the case.
Don't get me wrong, the Raker in it's early form ( I believe there are 5 generations of Rakers now) IS a good prop. It seems as though in cases where the most amount of bow-lift is required, the Turbo Lightning shows a tad better numbers, and where the bow-lift isn't as much of an issue, the Turbo TXP is darn hard to beat, but the set-up for the TXP is somewhat critical of balance issues and hull design.

If it's a true tunnel or a Mod VP tunnel, the custom props like Mazco are hard to beat. But it's not fair to compare a custom prop to a recreational prop either.

Re: anything better than a raker

Looks like the old HST. The fastest prop we've ever run on one is a Mazco RE-3. The old OMC SSTRX props reworked by Mazco or DAH work well too. If you were going to stick with a thru hub prop I'd look hard at the Turbo TXP's. The 32 TXP is fairly rare (I know where there's one at with an OMC hub) but I'd sure be tempted to try one if you're looking for top speed.

There was an early time where the Lightning was called "Just that", then for some reason the new TXP was called the Lightning TXP...2 different props, but we refer to them as the Lightning and the much different design, the TXP.
Dhadley is your man on that boat...that style is his expertise...

He'll be your best bet for proper set-up on that rig...had I known what boat you had, I would have sent you right to him.
Beings there are not many ModVP'rs on the site, I'd PM Dhadley and get some one-on-one for the best results.

The TXP would be the best bet on that boat as far as Turbo goes. The TXP has stern / overall lift compared to the Lightning that has bow lift. That design has plenty of natural lift.

As for the fastest prop all you need to know is 636-343-9911. That's Mazco's phone number. Call John and tell him what you want to do -- top end, 1/4 mile, etc -- and just bolt on what he sends. Hard to beat a custom prop and harder to beat a Mazco on a Hydrostream.
