Anything special about a BlackMax?

Hi folks, posted a couple of problems here the other week re: electrical no start, and fuel starvation and seems like those problems are all taken care of (new solenoid and some rewiring, plus a new fuel line plus bulb). <br /><br />Anyway, I've got a 1990 Merc 135 V-6 with the Blackmax designation on it....was there anything special that made this motor a blackmax or was that the standard designation for all of them in 1990?

I believe Black Max is the general designation for all the V-6s. No special bells or whistles. But it was the first Merc with oil injection. Before that they had AutoBlend which was not terribly reliable and most have been removed in favor of premixing. I don't think you can get any parts for AutoBlend anymore.

Hey Mike,<br /><br />A few months ago I downloaded all the videos and burned them to CD. They are fascinating and very informative. (yes, I am serious). I like seeing history behind some of my favorite toys.<br /><br />Chris.............(sad puppy who needs to get out more!)

Regarding Iron Fist. I loved the story where Kiekhaefer was trying to start one of his engines. After several attempts with no success he unclamps it and throws it overboard, learning then and there the fuel line wasn't connected. Great book.
