I just purchased a 1997 Evinrude 115hp 60 degree looper. Outside of the normal concerns for a used outboard (I am going to replace the water pump, thermostats, and lower unit oil) is there anything special to these models that I should be aware of? The engine has good compression and runs well on the stand.

Yea, when mounted on the boat, prop it for 6000RPM, WOT.
Use a good name brand 87-89 oct. fuel and a good TC-W3 oil. Make sure it has the correct CHAMPION sparkplugs in it.
Clean the oil res. out the best you possibly can.
Turn key, then hammer down!
EDIT: when you clean the oil tank out and fill with new oil, pump the oil bulb up, and you don't ever pump it again like you would the fuel bulb.

Make sure to buy the OMC/Bombardier waterpump kit.It will contain any updates to your cooling system components.

Just to add to the good advice given, when you clean the oil tank out, replace the oil filter sock at the end of the oil pick up. This is often over looked.

I would also check to see when the carbs were last overhauled. Loopers hate lean running and can go south pretty quick because of it. A carb overhaul may also be a good idea.
