Anything wrong here?

I took this picture 3 days ago while i was up north fishing. Not sure why i took it, thought it looked cool. Anyways I read on here somewhere that white smoke can indicate water in the cylinders. The engine runs perfectly as far as I can tell....just was wondering if anyone can see any upcoming issues from the pic? If not, hope you all enjoy the picture anyways. Motor is a 87' 25hp with thru hub exhaust if that makes a difference.

Nice place Pony! Make anybody envious.

I don't see the tell tale stream....(pee hole). Is it there and working?

What was the tempurature? I would think that is all exhaust smoke. The smoke looks to be a little excessive but could be wrong. I don't think steam would not hang around that long. OBJ, good eyes, can't tell if there's a tell tale. I bet that little Alumacraft moves right along the that 25 on it.

Re: Anything wrong here?

The temperature was somewhere between 40 and 45 degrees farenheit....maybe a little cooler. I noticed that there is water coming out of the exhaust holes in the back on the upper leg......but my thoughts were, and i could be wrong so help me out, that the water cooloing circutry is different at idle then at full throttle. Is that somewhat true?

There is a tell tale...its tough to see in the picture but it is peeing a nice stream of water. In the pic the stream looks like a piece of string coming down off the motor. Heres a blow up with a red circle around the stream.

See it now Pony. Probably won't smoke as much once you get it blowed out some.

Cooling circuit is the same at all rpms. You'll get a little more out the relief holes as the t-stat opens. Once under way, you probably won't even see any water there as the exhaust and water will be going out the exhaust tube and out the prop hub.

Re: Anything wrong here?

The pee hole should be farther up on the motor & coming from the RH corner of the lower cowling, which I don't see. The smoke appears to be coming from the upper relief hole in the lower housing, which could be normal if the weather was that cold & the engine was not warmed up yet.

But, I would be more concerned with the pee hole not functioning. This pee hole should spray water (not smoke) more until the thermostat opens up however.

Machinist- Its just a horrible picture to try and show the pee hole. If you look very very very closely you can see the stream of water coming from it.........also you are correct the smoke is coming from the relief holes in the picture. I understand exactly what you are saying, and know where the pee hole is and that it is functioning. just a bad picture thats all.

How long should it take this motor to warm up?.....its the first time i've run it when it was this cold out. I think after reading what you all have said its just the engine not being warmed up yet as far as the excess smoke is concerned.

Could this be a sign of running rich? I now last mix was a little more that 50:1....prolly more like 47:1.

I'm starting to think that I am looking for something wrong that isnt there. I'm paranoid over stuff like that since my last motor overheated quite badly

Re: Anything wrong here?

How long it takes to warm up can depend on the temp of the water Pony. If the water is cold enough, it may not come all the way up to norm temp until you throttle it up in gear. Your seeing most of the exhaust coming from the relief ports cause the engine isn't under way and it's easier for the exhaust to blow out the relief holes than it is for it to push through the water and out the prop hub.

Yeah....we all get a little paranoid on stuff like that. I still do even though I know my engines are running clean.....
