If the condition is unknown, replace the pds bearing and seal, and the impeller, these are cheap items to replace and can save you quite a bit of work IF they fail on you.

How does the shift cable look?

shift cable shows no wear externally, looks new. there was a bunch of work done on this boat before I got it.....could have been replaced then. Thanks for asking. I did decide to replace the o rings on the upper transmission where it mates to the middle gear box. I see in the diagram that there is a ' shim' should I replace this? and then there is this hose..... crazy expensive

This part is listed as item 78in the parts breakdown, mine is not cracked or dry rotted but....I would replace it if some one has a generic hose they have found that is not so expensive. any ideas? it is about a 45 deg dog leg and nothing special, goes from the sea water intake pipe on the inboard side of the transom to the copper intake pipe which is connected directly to the sea water pump/impeller.
I think I can run down to autozone and peruse the radiator hoses......anyone wanna jump in ?

Do not reuse any orings. Do not replace the shim, just make sure the same shim or shims go back in where they came from.

The intake hose is made to hold its shape and not collapse on itself from the suction of the water pump. No need to replace unless the hose damaged, etc.
