Can anyone tell me the correct torque for the rocker cover cork gasket torque and would it be a good or bad idea to use permatex sealant?

Thanks all

There is no torque number specified for that fastener in the manual. I would just use gasket adhesive to stick the gasket to the cover and install dry, it will need periodic tightening anyway.

Generic torque values are on page 5 of the manual. It's important to check the valve cover sealing surface to make sure it's flat without bends or ridges. Use of gasket cement is up to you. It's main purpose is to hold the gasket in place when you put the pieces together and you really don't need it. If you've done any work to the valve train, you'll want to remove the valve cover to recheck the valve clearance after it's warmed up. Gasket shellac could cause the gasket to tear when you remove the valve cover for final adjustment.

To avoid cocking or overtightening, tighten the screws in a crisscross patern a little bit at a time so that you're compressing the gasket evenly
