Boat sat up for a loooong time. Was not winterized and carb I am sure has carbon build-up. I would like to know if their is an over the counter product to help clean it out. Ive used your run of the mill carb cleaner with some improvment but I would really like to get it cleaned out with out breaking it down. Motor has twin carbs and they are off the motor for the moment. Thanks

Do you have a manual? It has whole breakdown of the carbs and adjustments.

I use gumout carb spray.

I think some of the soaking solvents can be hard on the smaller carbs.

If you don't have the manual, do a search of the forums for aq130 or aq170 (same manual) to try to find a link from Don S to the manual for your engine and drive.

Gumout works great for the external springs, linkage, pivots, and the throttle plate but won't do anything for the internal passages. You really need to disassemble the carb and soak the parts in carb cleaner, and then blow out the passages with compressed air. Kits are only about $40 each on ebay and come with instructions. A good thing about having 2 carbs is that you can do them one at a time and you have the other one for a reference.

I ordered the manual from iboats and should be waiting for me when I get back home this weekend. Do you think I'll have a hard time getting a kit for it considering the year 1977

I rebuilt my Quadrajet dual carb on my truck and it made all the difference. It may sound weak and I know there is no substitute but I was hoping to get around it. I thinl I'll resolve my heating issues first so I know what is really making a power difference. Thanks guys

They are Solex 44PA2 carbs but the kts for the PA1 carbs work fine. You can find several listings on ebay for around $40 or buy the Serra kits for around $80 each.

I did mine a few weeks ago and it's really not hard at all since these are single barrel carbureators.

A couple of tips:
Follow the directions.
Make sure you soak the metal parts for at least several hours.
You MUST blow out the passages to remove the dissolved varnish and crud.
Look at the spring orientation on the accelerator pump diaphram carefully so you know how to put it back together.
Adjust the accel pump linkages as close as possible before putting the carbs back on the manifold.

Any problems, don't hesitate to start another thread and ask for help but realisticly, it's not as hard as it sounds.

Edit: The shop manual is worlds away better than the aftermarket ones.

You mentioned heating (cooling?) issues. Best to start a new thread but there's plenty of help here with that also. I have the same motor/outdrive combination as you do so have some very recent experience with getting eveything up and running. Had different problems with the cooling system and was able to get all resolved so don't afraid to ask.
