my 19' 1975 runabout came with a 14x17 prop which gave me 5100 rpm and 32 mph. the hole shot and plain speeds where good but this is over the recommended max rpm range by 100 rpm. I had a 15x17 so i put it on to see what it would do. hole shot is about the same, I can keep plain at lower speeds 18mph. which is kinda cool but docking and cruising through no wake zones is tougher because at idle im moving more water and therefore off idle speed is a little fast. top rpm is now 4800 at roughly the same top speed 32 mph. All tests are with GPS btw. So my thoughts are going back to a 14x19 or maybe re-pitching/ cupping my 14x17. the 15" prop would be a good option for heavy hauling during crab season but for general cruising i think the larger size is wasted energy. I did all tests with my normal load by the way. any thoughts?
