i traded a old snowmobile i had for a 1988 imperial 184 that has a volvo aq131c and a 290a drive. after taking out out on the lake i noticed that there noise when you turn the drive, which im assuming its at least the universals if not the intermediate bearings in the flywheel cover. my question is does the engine need to be pulled to replace the bearings? i found some info for 275 and 280 drives but nothing about the 290. thanks for any insight.

Yes, the engine has to come out. It's the only way to remove the primary shaft from the housing. The shaft and bearing are pressed into the housing.
