aq171a with 290a drive trim issue

I have an aq171a with 290a drive. I am trying to troubleshoot a few annoying issues before summer. I have the older style trim pump that requires engine oil, and the drive will lower after a few minutes. I would like to know of some possible ways of fixing this issue. I have checked the oil in the pump and it is still full so I am not sure where to look. I have looked at the 44-5-2A Trim leaks down DP-DPS document posted but the pump is not that same as mine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely Tom, one of your piston bi-directional rings is leaking by. Can be the check valve in the pump, but 9 times out of 10 it is a sealing issue in the cylinder.

I rebuild these cylinders weekly and can say this with confidence.

Thanks for the response, I have to replace water intake hose and bellows on the out-drive. I will look at the cylinder rings while everything is apart.
