1986 Bayliner 19' BR Volvo-Penta AQ225E/270 outdrive, overheated BAD last season, I lost the outdrive water outlet and hose to corrosion, took out the impeller and exhaust hoses were baked. Today I replaced the "S" hose and water inlet fitting and checked the drive and exhaust bellows as well as replacing all the seawater pump parts. I found that there are two "L" shaped hoses with a "duckbill" end that come out, 1 on each side of the exhaust bellows. I checked every page of the 270 outdrive manuel and every supplier that I could find, and can't find these hoses anywhere. I assume since they were "baked" that they handle exhaust along with the bellows. Are they necessary? And where do I get them, and what is involved in replacing them? Thanks in advance, you guys, especially Don S., have saved my butt and this boat, more times than I could shake a stick at!

#1. Yes, they are damaged. They're burnt to a crisp, but the exhaust bellows looks brand new.
#2. My outdrive is labeled "270" but the manuel doesn't show this part. The drawing that you sent is for a "275". What's up with that? and
#3. I can't believe that I'm the first guy to overheat these hoses, do you know what all is involved in replacing them?

Thanks again, you guys are lifesavers!!

Re: AQ225E/270 Need part info. PLEASE!!

The 270 and 275 outdrive are very similar. Most AQ225E's came with a 275 outdrive. Yours may be either. Doesn't matter though, the idle reliefs are the same.

I'm sure you're not the first to burn those up, most people burn up the hoses between the risers and the Y pipe. I'm sure you did as well.

I've never tried to replace them so I can't help with the procedure. Like Jerry said they aren't absolutely necessary...But if your like me, I like things to be correct with my boat. Have you tried removing them? Maybe they just press into the hole over the tubes from the Y pipe.

Let us know what you find so we can help someone in the future.:)

There was no problem removing them, all that was left were the charred remains. I'm just hoping that I don't have to take off the exhaust bellows and replace them from the inside of the "Y" pipe. I've got small hands, but replacing that "S" tube just about maxed me out!
I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks!

When I did an internet search of this part number, I found a post by Don S. from 2005 on another website. He said that to replace these hoses you had to remove the motor and the "Y" pipe and install the hoses from inside the transom shield. I highly respect his technical knowledge, but that just ain't going to happen.

Re: AQ225E/270 Need part info. PLEASE!!

I launched the boat last night on beautiful Lake Geneva in Wisconsin and cruised around for about 2 hours with NO overheating or any other problems! Thanks to Don S. and all the others that provided information and encouragement, the cooling system is working perfectly and it ran better that it ever has in the 10 years that I've owned it! I re-built the Quadrajet carb by myself, converted to electronic ignition, installed a dual battery system with switching and corrected the problems with engine cooling. Thanks to all and enjoy the season!
