New to the forum, so I hope this is the right spot to ask this question. I have a 1979 Blackman boat with a Volvo AQD40 A and a 280 DP outdrive. I am in the process of replacing the spider/u joints and wanted to lube the gimbal bearing. I have a manual stating that the grease zerk for the gimbal bearing was on the housing behind the helmit, but there doesn't appear to be a zerk in there. I looked around the bellhousing and didn't see one there either. Any suggestions?

It's NOT a gimbal bearing, nothing more than a simple ball bearing in the flywheel housing.

The zirk (if you have one) is located on the flywheel housing cover inside the boat.

Thanks for the quick response Don. The only two zerks I can find and both are for steering. There is a fairly large screw on top of the flywheel cover where it meets the transom shield. Is this possibly where the grease zerk can go?

Yes, that sounds like it.
