I have an older aqua-vu and used it maybe 3 times. Mine is black and white only but is pretty clear. I find for me and my little boat it is just a hassel to lug along. It would be great for kids or ice fishing. The newer ones look like they would be a lot handier to use.

I've been toying with the idea of having a remote controlled toy submarine equipped with a camera, but found out that video signal doesn't transmit wirelessly through water. Wouldn't that be cool though?

The remote thing sounds good.....If you could maneuver the camera to where you wanted, I think it would be much better.<br /><br />The one I was looking at had a blue gill camera with 12 infared lights.....maybe you could add a hook to this blue gill and go after the fish of choice....

I put a stinger hook on my camera. I have the blue gill camera with the IR lights. I have had three northerns attack it. That must be the reason the cable and the camera is made of kevlar. I bought the aqua view scout last winter for 200 bucks. I mainly use it for ice fishing which is awsome. Here are some live videos taken with the aquaview. This was done ice fishing AQUA VIEW LIVE <br /><br />The biggest problem on the boat is getting the screen as dark as possible in order to see it. Visiablity in the sun is tough without some kind of veiwing screen that blocks out the sunlight. If I had to do it over again I would buy it again. As gonfishn mentioned it is good for seeing the structure and also for finding out what your fish finder is seeing. Thought I was on walleye and found out it was a couple of carp.

That was awsome euro. How do you know which way the camra is facing when your just looking at bottom structure? Does it work well will slowly moving along or does it spin around?

The camera has a lead belly weight and a big fin so that it will always point in the direction you are heading. For Ice fishing you can buy a tripod that you can turn to what ever direction you need it to point. The Marcum and the top line Aquaview have a compass that tells you which way the camera is facing.

I've also thought about picking one up but was recently informed the technology is soon about to change. Patent rights are currently being negotiated with a few major sonar companies which will then enable you to view the pics on one screen along with a GPS and Sonar.

Thanks for the information on underwater TV, guys. I think I'll wait. For some reason, pike do love 'em. I still say my old cat beats all the machinery in the world. He just swims down there, grabs the bluegills, and brings them to me. He gets 10%, and he prefers the smaller ones. His best so far is 10"--that was a fight to see!<br /><br />----------------<br />"The true benefit of a good education is skepticism."

Oh dudes! that is not even fair, that was like fishing in a fish tank. Those gills and perch are so stupid :D Did you notice how the bass just looked at the bait (appeared to be a worm rigged wacky style) and said "yeah, like I haven't seen that before"

Re: Aqua-Vu System ??

The footage is not from me. I got the link from a fishing forum I am in here in Minnesota. I have seen bass come up to the lure and just stop. NO matter what I do I can not entice them to bite but then again they are pretty slow moving during hard water fishing. I saw the inside of a Northern Pikes mouth for about 20 seconds before he finally let go. Good thing the hole was only 6 inches or I would have lost the camera. They are real tough to set up on a boat unless you are anchored and jigging next to the boat. I think walleyes do not bite as well with them in the water but bass and northerns dont care. Bluegills just school with the camera as well as crappie.

Thanks for all the info on this system and thanks euro for an inside look at what to expect from this thing, that was awesome !!<br /><br />You can't always go by the sales pitch on these things so it is good to hear people in the know.<br /><br />A lot of my fishing is done in the river and the river is pretty muddy most of the time so I guess you would run into problems as to how far you would be able to see. They say it comes with a softcase with a zip-out sunshield to help with the light so I don't know how well you will be able to see during a bright sunny day.<br /><br />I do plan on getting one and probably be getting the best that Bass Pro or Cabela's has at this time...

GoneFishie.. It actually is unfair to the the fisherman. I have seen some huge fins with my toy but you still have to hookem. Its soooo frustrating to see them so close but yet be so far a way if ya know what I mean :D

Yeah, I can see why it could be frustrating because you're trying to entices an unwilling biggun to bite. You could be sit there all day trying to get him and ending up not catching him. It kinda like seeing a non-catchable huge bass on her bed, you can throw everything at her and she still won't bites.

Re: Aqua-Vu System ??

I was thinking that you could more or less patrol the bottom looking for the big cats and then drop the bait in front of him if he didn't eat that little blue gill camera first.<br /><br /> The cable is rated at 200 lb test so maybe you could still bring him in and do surgery to recover your camera..<br /><br /> I noticed how that bass said "No Way" and kept on swimming......
