Re: Aquaply M for bottom paint
Hello m8s.. and Azlo..
Erm.. your stripe is underwater ? looks good but not a good idea..
Your blue looks .. blue..but where is your car in that background ( aye rusto might be good for some..but not for others..)
There is no proceedure that you say...just search Yout ? .. why dont you tell us how YOU did this job ? not to be mean.. but If you have done this ( spray or roll/tip ) then praytell how you made it look so .. nice.. ( though my feelings on your pics only show tape lines..not real shine or reflection.. ).
And.. how does your paint choice hold up to the weather.. what was your prep ? Just wondering...
YD.
PS. is this post jacked ? cause I dont see where you supplied Info on bottoms..just your sides...
It appears your concern is whether his stripes are going to hold up more than the bottom paint he applied.
I see where he stated Zinc chromate as a primer for paint adhesion, but he didn't state the process he used to apply all of the said Rustoleum paint products. From all of the info on Rustoleum paint on the web, it will be mixed to water consistency and then applied with a sponge type roller. No need to spray if not necessary.
IMO, we have enough problems to deal with other than improperly contained airborne pollutants in your neighbors back yard.
Not to mention having to get over spray buffed off your vehicles from your friendly boat restoring neighbor.
Now the $64 question, are the two part paint systems mentioned in this post worth three times the cost of the Rustoleum paint, in protection and longevity properties? I can't say.
I can say with my experience of painting my aluminum boat with Acrylic enamel 22 years ago that hardened Automotive Acrylic Enamel paint will hold up on aluminum when applied correctly. Only reason for automotive paint is I bought it off of the mixed up paint shelf(improperly mixed) for a whopping $10 a gallon. My boat is a trailer boat and never stayed in the water over a week at a time.
After DA sanding with 80 grit paper and spot priming with Zinc primer on the bare aluminum spots, I applied Acrylic enamel with the correct amount of hardener with a spray gun. I see no discernible wear on the hull in the runner areas. Paint is still glossy to this day. Sorry if I jacked your thread jm3382, hope you get it all figured out.
