I know this has been done here before but I figure lots of new members and I want to brag about mine :D

I have 2 120 gallon tanks. One is full of African Cichlids (Assorted)the other is South Americans( 2 Oscars, Jack Dempsy, Texas cichlid and a pike cichled all about 8"-10") and a arrowanna about 18" which came with the tank ( Big tank but still a bit crowded)..........Lots of work to keep them looking nice but wow it sure is cool.

Oh and yes, I have been tempted to get out the old ice fishing poles and make a few casts :D

Parrot Cichlids and a few others in a small 40 gallon tank.... we feed them lettuce, peas, and fish food too. Very interactive fish.

How large is the tank you have that thing in? Those can get more than 2 feet in length............

I had a reef tank. It is long gone now. I miss the corals and fish but not bad enough to put up with the maintenance it took. It was just another in my long list of expensive hobbies.

Re: Aquariums, who has them?

Its a 120 gallon....I think its 6' long.....The arrowanna is 18 inches so I bet it could reach 2 ft no problem. I would not suggest to anyone to run out and get one as they grow fast and are quite the jumpers. unfortionetly when I bought the tank he came with along with a huge Frontosa (African), so I have been stuck with him cuz he is too big to bring to the stores......besides my kid adopted him and he says its his fish....hmmmmmph.....not like I has a say in the matter. Just a big eating machine......Along with the oscars who by the way puddlejumper are about 10"-11" each.........Also didnt buy them. They came from somebodies nasty 40 gallon tank......I felt bad for them but in truth they are just big eating/pooping machines too.........Now my Pike cichled is another story....He is awesome. The other 120 is the wife's set up.......you can tell cuz the fish are pretty :(

Re: Aquariums, who has them?

Years ago, my middle son ended up with a 30gal setup, was out looking for a 20gal high, and this deal came along, couldn't resist it. We went fish crazy for awhile had about 30fish, a coupla silver $, a neon shark, black mollies, neon tetras, zebra tetra, gold mollies, plus other assorted non chiclids. Then after quite awhile as the silver $ got real big, ended up getting "ICH"! It took out most of the fish, we then ended up with a convict (chiclid) with the remaining fish, who would swallow the rocks in the bottom to eat the leftover food, and became "king of the tank" after awhile, and fish started to dissappear,,,lol,,, then we picked up a small Jack Dempsey, the Convict used to hound him until he got bigger, then one morning found the remains of the convict at the bottom of the tank, and the Jack Dempsey just kept getting bigger, picked up a coupla Oscars to keep him company, but eventually they got too big, and my son lost interest, so off they went to his friends matching community tank, and we shut down the tank.

Re: Aquariums, who has them?

75 gallon saltwater. A variety of fish.....1 rusty angel, 1 vagabond butterfly, 2 pearlscale butterflies, 2 firefish gobies, 1 hippo tang(dory on finding Nemo), 1-6 line wrasse, 2 blue-green chromis, 2 clown fish, and a couple others I am sure I am forgetting.

Alot of fun, and not as much work as you hear regarding saltwater. The downside, the cost.

Re: Aquariums, who has them?

Just set up a 16 gallon high 3 weeks ago. I was sent out to buy a small 5 gallon tank for my son's room and came home with that. So far so good. Have 2 gouramis, 3 small rasbora tetras and 2 corys. I was going to add a couple others this weekend but I decided to test my water first and my ammonia and pH were a bit high. So I need to get that under control first. Still trying to learn abotu the whole Nitrate cycle thing. I've had aquariums before and always let them get nasty and then lost interest. This time I'm going to do everything right so it stays nice.

The wife nd i have a 1300 gallon koi pond in the front yard with 25 assorted koi , an albino channel cat , a blue channel cat and several goldfish . I dug the pond by hand and after all was set up wound up digging 2 for my mom and now my sil wants me to dig hers and set it up . very relaxing to sit and watch them jump and play as long as the blue heron doesn't come for dinner again.

Re: Aquariums, who has them?

I have a 100 gallon planted tank with 8 rainbows, 2 kribensis, 2 blue acaras, a blue ram, 7 otto cats, a plec, and a school of pristella tetras.

I run co2 for the plants and fertilize micros and macros every other day.
The tank always looks great during the off season, but gets a little ragged once boating season starts.

Re: Aquariums, who has them?

I remember the last time this subject came around. I've found that I really enjoyed doing the research, and setting up the system and getting everything working.

Once the only thing left to do was watch fish swiming around, and clean a tank, I quickly lost interest and gave everything away.

Re: Aquariums, who has them?

Many years ago two roommates and myself had an apartment. Two of us worked a second job at a pet store that had a great "fish" department. We also built saltwater bio-filters on the side. We found that the best growing medium for bacteria growth was pink hair curlers. It was funny to see the look on the cashiers face when a 19-year old guy would walk in and buy the entire stock of curlers.

We had over 600 gallons of water. To numerous to name all fish but the mix of tanks was about 60% salt and 40% fresh.

There was an Oscar the size of a dinner plate. When you would come in from work, he would swim to the top of the tank and tap the lid so hard it would raise up. We fed him dog food and feeders.

Had a 2' cayman alligator. You could grab him, turn him over, rub his stomach and lay him down on the bar and he was out like a light.

Had a undulated trigger that was the absolute most agressive fish I have ever seen. If you took your eyes off of him while cleaning the tank, you were risking a chunk of skin. He would chew (it was amazing to see) a hole in an oyster and pump out the meat.

Those were good times.

I was going thru the garage the other day and found my prize pieces of coral. I dont think you can buy the stuff anymore.......

75 gal tank with lots of mixed tropicals. Survival of the fittest. It's cool to know that some of the fish have been with me for 5 years.

I've got 9 plus assorted Betta bowles. The smalest is a 20gl up to a 65 .
I just tore down my Marine tank this week, the wife got sick so the tank suffered. I gave away all the live rock and sand, because I lost all the fish.
It shure gave me more time for boating, too bad the seasons over here in N.E. I was told that looking at aquariums was good for lowering Blood Pressure,, I should be flat lineing
