Hi Everyone,

I recently came across a case of Motorcraft FL1A and Fram Ph8 filters that my dad bought back in 1982 (found old Target receipt inside box.) Are these filters still good to use since they are in there original boxes?

Thanks

Robert

I would take a look at the rubber gasket and make sure it wasn't dry rotted first. If they look alright I would probably use them.

Do you think the paper element is still OK after all this time? I would be weary. Cut one open and see for yourself.

Oil filters are $3. Don't take a chance. The frams weren't any good when they were new.

I think fram uses a cardboard bypass filter... I wouldn't trust it any longer. Most wouldn't trust fram at all, but that's another thread alltogether

I would sure think the technology has changed at least a little bit in 23 years... I'd put them on ebay.....or like said above, Return them to target :)

Oil filters are cheap, Don't use.

OMC, If you have old oil cans of oil, is the original oil still in the original cans "unopened" or is old used oil that you collect like I do.

Last I heard is a metal Qt. can of oil unopened is about 15.00 to a collector.

LOL A few weeks ago while sorting out my toolbox I found my old oil can opener/spout. I was trying to remember the last time I used it.

Thanks guys for the response. Everyone is probably correct. They might be worth something on Ebay but not in your car. I didn't think about the old paper element coming apart and clogging the engine.

Robert
