I got a Keurig for Christmas, it is a single cup maker and it is wonderful.

We got one too. It was expensive, and the packets to go in it are a little more than the per cup price of making a whole pot. HOWEVER, it's an excellent machine. No mess whatsoever and nothing to clean up. We got the "Platnium" version and it's a total no-brainer. Even Granny likes it a lot. I give it my highest rating - 5 sardines.

I've had Mr Coffees for years.....when you're pouring your coffee if you'll raise the little lid on the pot just a little it wont spill and run down the sides on the pot. Works for me.

Believe it or not about the best cup of coffie I ever had was made with what I call a hobo coffie maker. You need 2 papaer McDs cups. a piece of paper towel or a napkin and a some way to crush up the beans. Poke about a hundred little holes in the bottom of one cup . Use the napkin as your filter and pour hot water over the crushed beans letting it drip into the second cup. I made one while at the beach and woke up wanting coffie but not wanting to go drive and look for some.

I can relate...

We had a B&D Space Maker (hangs under the cabinet) for over ten years that recently stopped working. I liked it because it was up off the counter.

We replaced it with the new Space Maker. I'm less than thrilled with it. It has that stupid square pouring spout. The handle sticks way out making the carafe feel heavier than it is. The tank and buttons both have lights, but the clock does not. It also takes a bit of practice to put the carafe in its resting place. I can live with it but the wife hates it.

We used to have a Mr Coffee ($100 unit) that was great, hardly ever dripped. It was rotting out with rust falling off all over the place so I pitched it and dug out a Krupps we had in the closet,,, that thing drips just looking at it

Wished I would have kept the rusty Mr Coffee...

Back in the day when I worked in food service I would reach in between 2 people with one of these in each hand and pour without spilling a drop. You can get one for $11 at sears/k-mart.

Well, I think you have to spend a little more to get a better quality one.
That said, I have bought (2) 'average' programmable Black and Decker coffee makers in the last 6 years and I will never buy more or their crap. Very cheap items....luke warm coffee, I should have learned my lesson after the first one.:redface:
I was going to say they should have stuck to power tools...but I never liked their power tools either
I will definitely be looking elsewhere next time.

I've found that making a couple cups less than a full pot is the answer to the dribble glass problem with a full size coffee maker. However we don't seem to have the problem even with a full 4 cupper maker on the boat.

We have the Cuisinart 10 cup double wall with a charcoal water filter. Fully programmable. P.O.S.
It makes Warm, not Hot coffee and it pours like a bad joke. I don't know if the warm coffee is a legal issue carried over from the idiot that got burned carrying the coffee between her thighs or if it's just poor design. When you pour from this stupidly designed pot, the coffee must first go through a port in the cover! Very innovative but stupid. The pot is made out of stainless steel with a necked down portion at the top that is sharp so that if you try to insert your hand for cleaning, you will get injured.
Years ago Newsday had a parody titled "The Art of Perverse Engineering". This pot meets every single criterion for that article. If the design goal was to confound the users, it met its design 100%. This pot should have been called Curse-in-Art.

As a truck driver, I have to LOL at you single-cup coffe drinkers out there.

Walmart had a real "Bunn" coffee maker, but like most Bunn makers, did not have a programmable time start. It's nice to have coffee already made at 3AM.

I now have a POS programmable B&D from Wamart that gets thngs's done - more or less. Pours allright if you take it slow. I'll give it about another year (I've had it for 1 1/2) before it tanks.

I wonder of heroin addicts complain about the poor quality of their needles.

1930s - vintage Arcade Mfg. Co. wall-mount coffee grinder (American manufacturing at its apex) + a three section drip grinder + lake water = consistantly great coffee.

Thats just useless without a PIC, I really would love to see that!

(1) = pot bottom, (2) = coffee basket , (3) = water reservoir, (4) = Arcade Manufacturing Co. wall-mount grinder.

Grind the coffee in (4), the ground coffee goes in the basket (2), the heated lake water goes in the top (3), which drips through into the pot (1)
No moving parts ~ except me, and the occasional morning that is debatable....

The lake water is obviously a big part as well, still drinkable, and soft water even though the rock around the lake is limestone.

I use a Gevalia maker ... if I remember to lift the lid, no problem, but it I leave the lid down there is spillage.

OK, so I may be coffee pot challenged....:redface:

Still makes a mess even while lifting the lid.....

So I solved the problem and broke out the peculator we use over the fire while camping. Takes a bit longer to have coffee in the morning but it tastes better and no mess...

We too have moved on to the Keurig one cup at a time coffee maker several years ago. I have one for my home and one for my office. Can find them on sale for less than $100.

Keurig K-cup coffee started out real cost efficient. Online sites like Amazon used to sell the 25 packets for $8.00. Then Green Mountain bought Keurig and started price fixing coffee.

Best way to use the Keurig is to buy their little coffee basket insert for $14 and then buy whatever pounds of coffee you like. Beans or already ground. We keep the beans in the freezer and grind whichever ones we like. Then you are not tied to buying the ripoff K-cups.

Buy a pound of coffee and you get about 30 cups out of each bag (about 26 cents a cup). Nice part is my wife likes decaf at night and I like flavored, so the Keurig not only is cost efficient but you get a fresh brewed cup ever time!

Sorry, never had that problem, with any of my coffee makers.

However, we now use a Kuerig single shot coffee machine most of the time. Always a hot fresh cup of java, no mess to clean-up, no pot to wash, no coffee grinds to deal with .

In the pantry, there is a Mister Coffee, works great. One that brews the coffee and keeps it inside the maker, put the cup under and it pours directly down into the cup. We use these for the big family weekends/events.

On weekends we use the espresso machine for latte's.
