Is more expensive better when it comes to muffs?
I see a large number of people use muffs but what kind do you use?
Do people use the 8.00 kind that shoots water out of one side?
Or is 20.00 model that has water come out of both sides better.

Is more expensive better?

All the same? No.
Expensive better? Not necessarily.

You need to make sure of at least two things:

1) the shape and size of the rubber ears need to be sufficient to cover your intakes completely and make a decent seal(water will still escape under pressure, but there shouldn't be gaps present without water pressure).

2) the design allows for proper flow of water to your intake - this is where it gets a bit tricky and hopefully someone else with more intimate knowledge can answer the why...but, some intakes require water supplied to both sides versus just one side(depends on intake design).

When I purchased my set (rectangular ears with outlets on both sides), I found two that were identical except for brand and packaging...and price. One was twice as expensive for no apparent reason.

Hope this helps and happy boating.

I'm sure they aren't created the same, but I use the cheapies... I only use them twice a year, once in the spring to see if it starts and once in the fall to warm it up for servicing/fogging.

I have the both a cheapie one that came with my boat, and a more expensive one I bought. The one I bought split the water flow into both sides and has larger more supple rubber muffs. It's leaps and bounds better than the cheapie one.
