You'd get a better response if you started a new thread for your questions instead of resurrecting a 6 year old one.

Re: Are Bayliners really that bad???

I really wish that all the "knowledgable" morons out there who bash bayliners out there had the smallest clue as to what they were talking about.Geez lets all jump on the moron wagon and spout off about how bad a particular brand is when you dont have honest experience to speak about. Just to settle things no I dont own one I have never owned one but four of my boating friends do and guess what My boat gets moored in front of my house in the water theirs are all trailered to the water. Guess who gets more hours on the water, they do because I bought a quality boat a chris craft and things just keep going wrong. they are all within a few years of each other and hours of usage. Now Im not knocking my boat but I get a little frustrated when I see them going by with smiles on their faces and mines just floating there with something else broke. heres a list lower shift cable, Vertical drive shaft, eye hook in hull, wiring harness, gas guage, courtesy lights, swim platform pulling away from transom. yup sure am glad I didnt buy a bayliner Id hate to be out there enjoying the water instead of waiting for a replacement shaft that happens to be on backorder boy am I glad.

its a boat for cripes sake...calm down...

It's been over 6 years since he posted that, I'm sure he's calmed down by now.

I'm sure he has after 6 years, haha!

I guess that's just proof that this is a long-debated topic. I personally have gone back and forth on the topic, but currently subscribe to the view that they may not be the BEST boats available, but on an entry-level budget you can get a lot of boat for your buck.

Resale value may be less than on some other brands, but if well-maintained I've seen some sell for a pretty penny.

Bottom line - don't count Bayliner out. At their price levels, they may fair better than many other brands in this economy.

Re: Are Bayliners really that bad???

We have a 1984 Bay we bought new. Our neighbors at the lake have gone through 4 or 5 boats and our family still has the Bay. It only took common sense to keep most of it in like new condition. The hull has succumbed to some dock rash from my sister's poor docking unfortunatly. Don't expose it to sun when not in use, don't let it get wet and stay wet, don't let shoes in the boat, thoroughly clean it once a season. Seems pretty easy. Only took a few hours all told each season to accomplish keeping the boat nice. I say any boat that succumbs to rot or most any other preventable problem in the midwestern states shows poor ownership not poor craftsmanship. It is still exciting to drive this boat all these years later. I wish I could say that about my cars.

Bayliners are only inexpensive until you start adding options that come standard on other brands of boats. This is especially true of Bayliner's engine options. They usually have the base engine that is too small for the size of boat and then charge much more $$$ to upgrade to a more powerful engine.

I dont believe that. Everybody charges for more powerful engines. An 09 Sea Ray 185 is available with a 3.0 for 24,232(incl.frieght and trailer). With a 4.3 its 27,580.
09 Bayliner with a 3.0 is 17,120. With a 4.3 its 20,634.
So with the same engine (4.3) theres still a 7k difference.

Re: Are Bayliners really that bad???

wow.....a 6 year old bayliner bashing thread......

gotta shine up my bayliner bashing stick.....ok...here goes....:D

no such thing as a bad boat.....just a bad owner.....(with the exception of the dreadded " L" drive :D)

man....a well maintained garage kept b liner will do the owner proud for many years to come if he just wants to boat around.....

if....not......well then it will end up like mine.....a 90 capri....19 footer....that is rotted right out.....filled with wet foam and gauges that dont work.....trailer is still good tho...:D

however....i will restore it and sell it.....after i fix it......it will be brand new....and better than it was before....and worth all the money ill charge for it.
