are gas cans brand specific

Are gas can for outboard motors brand specific or can you use a johnson gas can with a yamaha motor?

the cans themselves are pretty much universal but the connectors vary depending on make

coupling fittings to the motor are brand specific. the motor does not care what the fuel is stored in.

The cans are usually sold without a fuel hose fitting. You buy the fitting to match the connector on the fuel hose.
