after noticing that 3 of my gauges are busted due to some reason or another

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=574820

I would like to try and see if they can be fixed as they are part of a complete set of 6 and were a xmas present from the other half so kinda don't want to throw them out if at all possible.

So , can a volt/trim/tach be re-paired at all??
if so how??

if not break it to me gently...:)

Never heard of anyone repairing a gauge. All I have seen are sealed units and have to be broken apart to get to the inside. Even if you could get to the inside, where would you get parts? You should be able to get matching gauges from the same manufacturer unless they are pretty old.

You say they are busted! Busted how? Many folks replace gauges because they think they are broken only to find out the new one doesn't work either. Find out why the gauge doesn't work. Then replace it if you've proven it's the gauge itself and not the wiring, loss of power, ground, or the sense signal is missing. Troubleshoot -- then replace if necessary. There is a thread just below your dealing with gauges not working. It includes diagrams.

But since you asked, the manufacturer sometimes has a repair service. You can look at the gauge but I think you will find these are sealed units and there is no way to get inside. And unless you are electrically savy you could not determine what was wrong anyway.

Silvertip, I have confirmed power going across the gauges and have a working trim sender leading to that gauge. So therefore I am assuming that the gauges are toast... as they won't read ...hence the reason for trying to see if they are fixable.

But seeing as they are sealed units then I guess not. It cost a bit to get them shipped here from the states and so sending them back to the manufactuer if they do offer a that sevice is not worth it. I'll trawl flea-bay and see if i can get repalcements.

Re: are gauges repairable?

yes they can be repaired but its very expensive i had a set (4) restored for a car and it was over 500 dollars but they came back looking like new. i know its expensive to have stuff shipped to you in ireland but thats realy the best option. you know the gauges are broken so you carnt break them any further so you can play with them by using a small screwdriver and slowly unroll the bezel cap from the rear. you put the tip of the screw driver in the gap and twist gently then move around and around until you unroll the bezel this will let you take the glass off and then you can normally undo a couple of screws and get to the insides. proberly nothing you can do to fix it but if you realy want to know whats inside and its broke you can take a look
