Are Honda and Yamaha Props Interchangeable?

I am looking to replace the prop on my BF45 Honda Outboard and would like to know if a Yamaha prop will work on a Honda Outboard.

The prop on my motor is a 286 X 330 or 11 1/4" X 13 (286 X 330 is stamped on one of the blades). I have located a 286 X 330 Yamaha prop that appears to be exactly like my Honda prop.

So are the 286 X 330 Honda and Yamaha Props Interchangeable? They are both 13 spline props and appear to be identical.

You could try a call to them, but I think the answer is going to be a pretty safe bet. No! It's not in their self interest to OK anything Yamaha to be installed on a Honda, even if they are an exact match.

If you REALLY want to know, ask somebody that sells a lot of props.

FWIW, my bet is if the spline count and hub diameter match, it'll fit. I know there are Mercury models that will work, and heard there are Suzuki's that will work as well. I have NOT personally installed a prop from a Yammi or Suzy myself. That said, you need to be careful with/pay attention to the spacer that goes between the prop and the lower unit, as well as the part that goes under the prop nut. Make sure there is proper clearance between the lower unit and the prop - that's important when playing games like this! YOU are the one that's going to take the hit if anything goes wrong. -Al

Thanks Guys. Sorry for the late response. I found an aftermarket Honda prop 11 1/4" X 13 that is an exact match as far as the hub goes. The blades are different than what I have though. (The trailing edge is more curved on the new prop and is kind of straight on the existing.) Maybe someone here knows the differences. Same specs, just a different shape.

I am waiting on parts now for the motor, so it will be a while before I see how it performs.

Sounds like you might be talking about a "cupped" prop. Try it!

I recently had a cupped 10.5 x 14p on a 50hp Honda that worked pretty good, but that was a fairly light alum. fishing boat. Not sure what your motor is mounted on.

Tach current prop as usually loaded when possible. Ideal would be for motor to run middle to max wot rpm range factory stated..If not, it's not the ideal prop for your current application to count with..
