Re: Are my eyes too big for my .....

My post about the tongue being smaller in front - It looks like the added tongue is square tube that is smaller than original rectangular tongue. Looks like the surge brake cylinder/movable tongue was pulled off and replaced with square tube. It was late for me too, might have mis-seen.

Speaking of brakes, The requirement is not how much the loaded rig weighs, i.e. over/under 3500#, but what the trailer rating is. An empty semi and loaded semi have the same requirements even though one weighs half as much. Same with trailers. Loaded or unloaded the trailer rating is unchanged.

BTW - 64osby has found a good one! Sure it needs some work, but that's how you make it fit your needs. If we were all loaded with dough we would be buying brand new, but where is the fun in that?

Darron, That's quite a set up. Whats your islander weigh ?

I love the high rise ball, I use the same thing:)

According to Iboats she weighs 2145lbs dry and the trailer looks like it was built specifically to mate to a high 4x4 as when the trailer is perfectly level the receiver is about 2.75- 3 ft off the ground! so I needed the highball (hic) to leash her to the minivan but the EXPY necessitates I get a slightly lower one - on the shopping list

BTW guys where the heck are the pages that show your boat weight and horsepower rating - I looked recently & couldn't find them

Have seller sen a photo of the trailer he says will go with the boat. The one shown has a lot of danger written all over it. the tonge looks to me like it is not even welded. Just 5 bolts holding it together . Yikes any decent trailer will be an improvment. IMHO Pugetsound.

Re: Are my eyes too big for my .....

This boat has been for sale for quite some time. I remember seeing it last summer. He extended the tongue. He wrote about it in his CL ad. I don't remember why. I just did the floor on my 22" Islander that is in the process of becoming a center console. It took 5 sheets. I used exterior grade wood and coated them with 2 coats of fiberglass resin. It was a grand last year for the rig. Hopefully he's open to offers. That hull is a great starting point. Your TV will easily pull this rig. They are very light for there size. I pull mine with a V6 Xterra.
I continue my quest for an open bow Starcraft!

I came across a 75 21' Mariner. I searched the site and did find a few owners, very little info except that when made it was about 900# 21.25' long and 86" wide.

The boat was a center console. It has been gutted, new transom, rivots bucked, gulvit applied, exterior painted, comes w/ a two axle trailer - needs winch/ stand which I have.

My biggest concern is my TV it is a 92 Caprice wagon, 5.7 350, will this boat be too big?

I have a 135 evinrude, boats is rated for a 140.

Main uses cruising, tubing, skiing, and casual fishing.

What's the budget number to put a good floor in this?

Is this worth a grand as is?

What say you Starcraft diehards out there?

JD - Thanks for all the input, he states the trailer that comes with it is a roller. I'll try and get a pic.

5 sheets - ok - how did the FG resin work, did you use any cloth?

My TV needs a newer tranny in it before any towing happens, I have one, just have to get it in.

Selling for over a year. I think I saw EZ post somewhere the gluvit is not UV friendly, and will break down if exposed?

As far as towing, my Mariner 21 goes across the scales at(EDIT!! Sorry- the other data was for my old Grumman 16) 2620#. I only keep about 80lbs on the tongue(yeah, I know it's not 10% of gross, but I have no issues with it) so I can lift it a bit to get it on the ball. I pull it up to 150 miles in the mid-Atlantic area with my '94 Nissan pickup, 3.0 4x4 5 speed. Sure, sometimes I hafta stay in 3rd going up a steep(6%) grade, but I keep up. Single axle trailer, no brakes. I also pull it with my camper, it's a 360 Chrysler 3 speed auto, and the camper itself weighs in at 8700#. I wouldn't want to pull it up any loooong mountain grades, but again, short, steep pulls are no issue. 350 GM should be fine.

I did not use any cloth. I did it for water protection. I went with 5/8" instead of the original 1/2" that was in there. The floor is solid.

Oh- I screwed up bad! Forgive the error, but the weight I posted was for my old Grumman 16 ...My Mariner 21 comes in at 2620#. That's with full(28 gals +3 for the kicker)fuel, 1990 Merc 100 and 8hp Merc kicker, on a '03 Load Rite single axle 4 bunk trailer. I took it across the local truck stop scale for $5 back in '03. Thanks for the compliment- I'll be starting a narrative on the restoration at some point, lots of pics there of it ugly!
