A good friend here is a "Garbage truck" driver. picks mine up. Ya can spiff it up at "Refuse Collecter" if needed.
He doesn't care..good people..
Saw it again today. Dumb
Thursday is Garbage, every other Thursday the Recycle.
Just put mine out.
We have the "claws" for pick up.
YOU MUST HAVE THE CANS AT LEAST 3 FOOT APART FOR THE CLAWS!.
Looked at the "stupid" again, up and down the dogpatch.
First saw idiot neighbor a few down...the G-Can butted up to the YARD WASTE Can..(THATS EVERY OTHER MONDAY!!)
We had a grade school teacher here for a few.
Big letters on the can..."This end pointed at the street"
So what did she do?
She always aimed DOWN THE STREET!..WRONG.
And she was a "teacher"?
I run the dog later at night when the working people are doing "Z's"... can't tell ya the cans I have to move....so my friend don't have too.
Just a rant on "stupid".....

Around here they won't take it if it is not placed correctly. The residents have learned quickly. Some found out that dumping their stuff on the curb gets them a major littering ticket.

Garbage and recycling collection.....................what a novel idea!!:rolleyes: It may catch on down here some day, but for now it's haul your own.

I prefer hauling my own... of course I live less than 1/2 mile from the transfer station where I can either trash or recycle just about anything (except yard waste, most of which I compost anyway).

Yeah, we are rural too. Private HOA tip of Peninsula.
Lots do the dump run, I like the convenience myself

It is amazing how little it seems to take to send you on a rant, SCAATY.

I would like to hear your thoughts on people who get in the "20 items, max" lanes at the supermarket with a cart load of stuff, then leave their carts blocking parking spots as they drive off the wrong way in one-way lanes. :)

Re: Are people THAT stupid..a simple garbage can, and RC Bin

But Scaaty, are they really that stupid?
Obviously, since they pay either direct or through their taxes, they can easily get away with putting their garbage totes in whatever way they please. If the garbage collector does not pick up their garbage, all they have to do is pick up the phone and complain. The garbage man will come back and he will pick up their garbage because if he does not, he will either loose his job or loose a customer.
Where I live, there is a lot of competition between garbage collecting companies.I don't have to take my tote to the side of the road. The garbage man comes to my house, picks up the can and returns it.

Simple.... I live too rural to have any company to come and pick up anything.......

If it needs to go to the transfer station we load it up and haul it there.

Yikes!!

Maybe your neighborhood needs trashcan placement enforcement, or it may already have it! ;)

I'm starting to feel a little guilty now, as sometimes, if my "comingled" recycling can is full, Ill throw a few plastic bottles, in with the newsprint!

I understand why the OP gets cranky about this subject. If stupid neighbors don't place the cans properly, he ends up with a crappy looking neighborhood to live in, because the refuse can't be properly dealt with.

Also, in a lot of places, residents don't get a choice of carting companies - the local county, etc. provides the service as a utility and bids the garbage service to one company.

Where I live, our local parish (county) council actually prevented a new, and very good carting company, from bidding on our most recent renewal. They passed an ordinance requiring that all bidders have at least five years experience in the carting business. This effectively excluded the new company, which was formed after Hurricane Katrina and has done an excellent job all over the New Orleans metro area, from the bid process.

Gee, I wonder how many campaign contributions a certain company with big green garbage trucks, has made to our local politcians!

Now could that be the company that has planted 41 million trees lately? I hear that they waste management. Are they really doing that to their management?

DON"T GET ME STARTED!:D
And I only go to town middle of the afternoon once a week, got it down to Thursday as best. Soon will be middle of the night at the 24/7's. Madness.
And are the aisles getting smaller, or carts bigger, or people bigger? Seems ya can't fit but one down an aisle anymore. I leave the darn cart at the end, walk down for the one item, still have to do an "excuse me"
And whats with the orientals I'm seeing lately, going out the in door all loaded down?
Must be a extension of the way they got around on bicycles on the crowded streets old country...anyway out is fine.
Gotta admit, its cheap entertainment:D

Are you suggesting that free market solutions are more efficient than public agencies or exclusive municipal contracts? Nah, I didn't think so . . . ;) :p :)

You are not gonna like it,but this deal was struck with the town and the waste management company.Waste management won the contract for this exclusive municipal contract.
On top of that,I now pay for my waste removal through my municipal tax.The result of this is that the money for waste removal is tax deductable.

Re: Are people THAT stupid..a simple garbage can, and RC Bin

My folks live in the suburbs. Up until a year or so ago, the collectors would walk up the driveway to the house, drag the cans down to the truck, dump them, then bring them back to the house. I was always amazed that they did that. Probably paid extra for that sort of service.

They too pay for trash collection through town taxes, so they are a deduction off the fed tax. Too bad for me I have to pay the collector directly --- Grrrr...
