I found a 2.5 horse mariner outboard for pretty cheap. Have you guys had any problems with them? Are they smooth? High mantinance? Let me know what you think about them. Thanks

99% of all outboard made today are good, it's the maintainance that is bad.

Did a quick parts search here and in the NAPA auto parts Marine products catalog.Found only an impeller listed for 2A and 2B motors. No other parts specific to Mariner 2 hp listed.Don't know if Merc dealers carry any Mariner parts.

Mariner is a merc. There's not much to the motor and not much to go wrong. It's ok for putt putting along and not much more. It isn't as smooth as a two cylinder, but ok.

its more likely made by tohatsu. most of the 30hp and less mercs are actually repainted tohatsu's. ive owned many mercs and many tohatsu's too, and you will not go wrong if its a tohatsu. it will run like fine japanese machinery

Re: Are small Mariner boat motors any good?

well, I have a OLD mariner 3.5.........it was made by Yamaha. As for smooth? Not by a long shot. It's only a single cylinder, so the vibration is somewhat bad. Maintance is simple (it's air-cooled, so no water pump)

Since you didn't tell us the year of your's, we really don't know what you've got.
