Hi all, havent been on here for a while. Im doing a complete remodel on my 1990 VIP 19' vision. got the carpet in today, mounted my new bolster seats and got a sundeck on to replace the doghouse. still gotta either build a bench or buy one. But to my question. I moved the control arm off of the wood (I actually completely removed the wood from the inside) and mounted it to fiberglass. after drilling the hole and mounting it,,,, its very hard to move. I disconnected all the cables and tried to move them. the lower cable is a red one and seems to be fine. The shift cable is kinda hard to move, but the throttle is almost impossible to move. So Im cable shopping. The control arm works great also. My question is, are the throttle and shift cables the same. I looked on iboats and they only call it a control cable i think. I am gonna get both throttle and shift, just wanting to check and see if they are both the same. 'thanks

You have 3 cables. One cable goes from the control to the carb for throttle. Another goes from the control to the shift mechanism on top of the engine and another cable then goes down to the drive.

If you are having trouble shifting, its likely the cable going to the drive is the one causing this. Disconnect it at the shift plate and see if the control is easy to move.

Both cables that attach to the control are the same type of cable but will be different lengths. You have to determine the length you need for your particular boat but like I said before, its likely your lower shift cable.
