Are the trim limit swiches nessecary??

Looking at my boat, i just noticed on my alpha one gen 2 oudrive has wires hanging out. they are feeding the trim limit switches. the starbord has one wire broke off right at the switch and the port side wires are completley bare and tangled up with eachother. what kind of problems can this cause or can i clip the wires and completely do away with the switches all together??

One side is the limit switch and the other side is the sender for the trim gauge. They are marked accordingly on the body of each.

If the limit switch is not working, then you will not be able to raise the trim with the regular trim button. Instead you will have to use the Trailer button.

Find the trim limit wires inside the boat. Hook them together on the boats side and your trim limit switch is bypassed, and you can use the normal trim switch to raise the drive all the way up. No more limit.

just so i can learn.. are you saying that in normal operation....the limit switch has a closed contact until the "limit" is reached then the continuity is broken?? and by wiring them together ive kept the contact closed whereby the trim button will work no matter the posistion of the drive??

As you are probably aware with the limit bypassed and the guage not working you will need to be aware of where your trim is when running. Usually the boat will tell you when your trimmed out too far but not always. If it were me I would return it back to full in everytime I stopped just to be on the safe side.

Yep, if the rpms start getting real high, and the speed starts dropping, or the prop is coming out of the water, might want to trim it down some.
