Are there any tounge jacks that are POS????

Bought a 80 dollar jack for my jetski, lasted A season........now when I turn it the wheel turns and I have to SMASH it to get it to go up and down..

Fastforward to 2 days ago in the rain, trying to jack up my boat with it's wheel jack! F'in thing BROKE and refuses to go up or down.

WTF???

Why do I get all the crap *** jacks??

I have this one trailer jack on mine, and it has been stored outside in the FL sun/weather for almost 3 years and still works like new...

Dunno if that helps you or not, but I have never really had a problem with the seasense jacks.

The good ones will have grease nipples (mmmm...nipples..uh..oh) for which you can lubricate them (mmm...lubricated nipples....um...oops) which will make them work and last much better.

I think the one on mine is manufactured by Fulton.

Good point!

I forgot to mention that my seasense one does have the grease fitting (nipple for those that like to call em that )...

I grease it about once a month just to keep it "fresh" and thats probably why it has never given me any trouble.

I sure am glad I'm an old worn out codger cause this post is (shucks decided not to go any further). My boss gives me grief everytime I use the word describing the pins or whatever on our copiers. Oh well, everyone always knows what I'm talking about.

Avoid the jacks where the wheel turns along with the whole shaft.

You want to find a jack where the shaft is "keyed" - if it has a wheel it should spin on a swivel/bearing at the bottom of the shaft ONLY.

Could it have anything to do with smashing it?

I have one on my boat that the wheel turns, I put my toe on the wheel to stop it till it hits the ground, no smashing involved.

It has been on the trailer for 5 years with no problems and that is a boat that is many times heavier than your ski.

I seems to me beating on anything will drastically shorten its service life, just my 2 cents.

The one on my trailer is about 32 years old and still works like new. When I get home from work I will find out what brand it is (If they are even still in business) and post it up.

The OEM jack that came on the '85 Bayliner Escort trailer still works 100%. But it just goes up and down, no swing away feature.

I put a Fulton swing away style on the other trailer. I've had it since 2003 and it sits outside all year, rain, ice , and snow. I just keep it greased up. Pull the little cap off the top and loaded up with grease, greased the pivots points, etc. No problems. I think it was only a $35 jack, 600-800 lbs capacity.

Grease is your friend.

I have one from Tractor Supply on the car trailer thats lasted 6 years so far. It sits in the rain and snow and sun for that fact all year round.

the original ones on both of my trailers are crap. One has a welded in axle and the wheel is gone (major suckage here) and on the other, it has a steel wheel and a balky swivel. On the first boat, I installed a new tilting jack from BassPro (made by SeaSense) and now all is well. Biggest gripe I have with the original jacks, isnt that they are crap, but that they are welded to the trailer, so you cant easily replace them when they crap out. Guess the blue wrench is gonna have to come out.
