1990 Larson All American 170 w/ Mariner in line 6 115. Now that I have the motor at the correct height ( AV plate just above the lowest point of hull ), my steering cable no longer hits the cavity in the splashwell designed for that purpose. Just to get the tilt tube and steering link close to paralell, I had to flip the link and install a longer bolt with a bushing at the motor.Having done that, the threaded portion of the link now hits the top of the splashwell cavity. It is maybe 1/4 inch to tall.

Are there different types or styles of steering links? With more or less reach on the bent end that attaches to the cable? Will I have to enlarge the cavity?

It almost looks as if a flat piece of steel on top of the steering cable end that attached to the pivot hole closest to the motor would work. Any reason I can't whip something up?

you know a picture of you situation, would help tremendously. you also may have to drill a hole for the steering cable to be rerouted.
