Are Volvo Penta and Mercury MC1 shifters compatible?

Hi Gang.

Shifter on my 1978 470 MC1 (I know, I know) is worn out so much that I have trouble finding neutral...
Found used Volvo penta shifter on e-bay that looks the same design as existing one in the boat.
Are those compatible? Cable travel distances the same for shifting and throttle?

Most controllers have multiple holes to fit multiple applications...
