As this topic been hacked by Luddites? I remember my first car, a 1940 Chevrolet. A tune up every couple of months. Yes it was easy to work on. You set the points with a matchbook cover and gapped the plugs to a thin dime. Those 6:00x16 tires only cost about ten bucks but they only lasted 10,000 miles. Everyone's tackle box held at least one and usually two sets of plugs to change on the lake when they became oil fouled. I can remember the look on my grandmother's face every time I spilled the water emptying the tray under the ice box. Then she got an electric fridge and I had the same problem every time I helped her defrost it.
The good old days were not always that simple.
