TJ40ELENM 40hp '92 johnson on tx17 bass tracker;
Some people have the "Midas" touch, I have the complete opposite. This week every thing I touch turns to !#*@
I was in the process of taking the 2 carbs off to clean and put a couple of new gaskets and seals on them.
Both carbs have a very small i.d. hose (maybe 1/32 in)that attaches to a brass color nipple just before the carb attaches to the manifold. I think the little rubber tubes go to the electric choke. When I pulled on the hose to remove from the top carb--> I broke the nipple off. The nipple looks pressed in. Can this be replaced? Where to get part? Should I take up sailboating instead?

Is that nipple in a plate on top of the carb or in the metal part of the carb body?

Those tubes go to the primer.

Check with your local John/Rude dealer to see if those are serviceable. If not, all is not lost.

You can CAREFULLY drill out the old fitting and thread a new (generic) one in. I've done it before on fuel inlet fittings.

Otherwise, these guys would have a salvage carb.

www.twincityoutboard.com

We use the 327706 fitting. Those push out from the back side and then use a very small socket to push the new one in. The fitting is tapered so it's a pretty easy deal.

Call the closest dealer, they'll send you one just as fast as any internet site can.

I got the 327706 nipples in the mail today from the closest dealer.
- to push the old nipple out, should I just use a punch from the inside of the carb and whack it with a hammer until it comes out?
-or should I just grab the diameter with a pair of pliers and pull/twist until it comes out?

Either way. We usually tap it out from the backside. It won't take much.

Thank you Dhadley, the nipple just popped out from the back side like you said. The new one went in no prob. Thank you so much, I thought I had created a huge problem for myself, but it was actually simple to fix with the advice provided.
