Yet another argument for some sort of nationalized health care plan of some sort.

Every other country we compete with has some form of nationalized health coverage, except for the US

This was in the news about 6 months ago... If WalMart was a country, it would be China's 8th largest trading partner. That is a pretty scary statistic. When the chinese cars do arrive, are we to expect cars to be on sale in Walmarts automotive section?
That too is a scary thought.....but a big possibility.

Sam Walton would flip in his Grave...

Nav

How did you make that REDICULOUS leap?
The other car company’s in the other country’s have nationalized health care hence cheaper cost per car and to sell in America .same with the airplanes made in France competing against Boeing.

Perhaps Treedancer and PW should go to the "other" countries for their health care. ;)

LT,

I'm still trying to figure out the healthcare angle. Isn't it the combination of wages, taxes, benefits etc. that determines the cost? i.e. take any one of those things alone and you are dealing with only part of the story. In the case of China there are all kinds of parts that don't match up with ours . . .

Re: Asian auto maker coming this way?

That's fine, but don't complain when other countries can build their goods cheaper because their corporations don't have to fund private health insurance for their employees, plus someone has to pay for those that are uninsured and still get treated.

All of the other developed nations have some form of nationalized health care, except for the US. That's fine, if that's what we want--just don't be surprised if that comes at a cost...

I still think this thread is about competition with UN-developed nations . . .

BTW, private companies fund everything . . .

Re: Asian auto maker coming this way?

Boys and girls, we (American labor) are more and more finding ourselves in competition with slaves of the Chinese communists. To me, that is a huge issue. Their cheap labor drives our wages and standard of living down and provides cash for them---the Chinese communists---to build up their military and develop arms. I think we can guess what they want to do with the military power they are building, can't we?

I say that free trade is a good thing, but for free trade to exist, you must have free people providing the labor. Our trade policy with China is bad for America.

http://www.madeinusamag.com/

Very interesting article about how toyota is making it happen. Wages are competive with the Big 3 domestic, More parts are made in house so to keep quality in toyotas control which is how they make what I think is a superior product. And prices are still competitive with the american market. They continue to grow because of the longevity of their product. Makes sense to me.

As for this new chinese vehicle not being safe, There are still govt standards they must comply with. They cant get any worse than the suzuki's here and its up to anyone and everyone that buys a vehicle to read up on the safety data on the vehicle they are buying. I did not buy a suzuki Grand Vitara because of their safety ratings and the same could be said for this new chinese auto if they fall into a similar category. But that wont stop many others. They will come in like Kia did. Low prices for the first 5 or 10 years with high warranties, then the prices will start to go up.

Re: Asian auto maker coming this way?

I think one huge advantage the Asian-based automakers have always had over American automakers is that the management/labor relationship is not tainted by the labor disputes and the adversarial relationship that resulted. The result is that when they set up shop and began to define how things would be done, a lot of nonsense and inefficiency was omitted that still exists in domestic plants. Too bad (for Detroit, that is).

Re: Asian auto maker coming this way?

yea if they dont do something about their crash ratings, they wont be allowed in. Take a quick look at suzuki's ratings. They are too low to put any family member of mine in. But shows the standards aren't set very high anyway.
