At what point do you stop inviting people out on the boat?

I am at the point where people have to invite themselves. They all know they are welcome anytime so the ones that do want to come will come. I am out about 2 times a week and I mention it on facebook.

Another thing I require is that if you are going you have to leave when I leave and come back when I am ready to go. I normally make a 10-15 mile sometimes 25 trip one way out and I got tired of people wanting to come after I have been out or needed to leave early and making that trip again.

I am with you, we have some water front so I am not driving people back and forth. We have people who drop by and for the most part people who say they are going do. I love going on boat rides, pulling a skier or tubers not so much but an necessary evil. My skiing days are behind me sadly.

So what usually happens? You invite them and they go with you once and then never say yes again? If they were truly skiing and wakeboarding fans they would probably make/take the time and go whenever they could. What age group is this crowd?

Maybe your friend's expectations are different than yours regarding "going to the lake". It sounds like you put them to work when maybe they want a relaxing day on the water. Or the boating experience is less than what they enjoy for some other reasons. Maybe you need to go to "Charm School" ? .. ;)

:) Over the years and having many different types of people on the boat, I have experienced people who get sea sick easily, are not strong swimmers and I have also had many people out that claim to have had the time of their lives and can't wait to go out again.

A big part of the issue for me, is up in NH, the boating season is short, and the weather is so unreliable that it makes planing a day on the water a very last minute thing and I don't really know anyone that is big into water sports, 95% of people I take on my boat for the first time have never even been on a tube or skiis.

The age group of the crowd is probably the biggest issue. Most of my friends are in their lower 30s and have young kids/babies at home that they cannot get away from.

For the comment about being able to use a mirror, While I feel fully competent driving/towing with just a mirror. The state of NH disagrees and I also don't feel that confident with most others that drive the boat towing me (including my wife) lol. I want them to focus on where they are driving not me wake-boarding!

As i like to say, first world problems..

I have thought about that, but have never done it. Although I'm sure some of those I go out with are fb'ers, I think most (including me) are not. I think most in my age group are not. Do you find this works out well?

To answer the op's question, for the most part, I just stick with those that I have a good time with on the water, and are reliable.

You may just have to adjust to the fact that as hard as it is , some people just don't like boating like you do. But dont let the fact that nobody else wants to go stop you. You may not be able to ski or tube, but just being on the water is just as enjoyable. I`ve gotten to the point that I am very selective as to who I invite. Being out on a boat all day is not for everyone and I refuse to leave our tie up to run somebody back to the dock several times during the day. You must agree to my timetable. Some play along, some do not. I`m not going to let the lack of passengers ruin my outing.
