I have the rotary steering all hooked up on my boat. My only problem is how it is supposed to connect to the outboard. It looks like i could just bolt it but that wouldn't give a full range of motion. Can someone direct me to an adapter or the parts I need? What I am looking at is in the picture

Yep. Your outboard wasn't designed for that cable type steering.....was designed for the pulley/wire system.

Iboats has most of the conversion pieces you need....it's in their steering section.

Re: Attaching rotary steering to the outboard

*edit* - oops, typed too soon. Cannondale is right and I was wrong to say it could easily work. I see now that you have no way to run the cable through the transom clamps. Plus you need an intermediate rod to connect between the cable and motor to give the proper throw and range of motion. Here's a (poor) pic of the setup on my old tinny.

Note both the intermediate rod and the fact that the cable passes through a dedicated tube between the outboard clamps to anchor it so that when you turn the wheel, the motor will turn and not just shift the cable around.

Now, if you got that intermediate rod and found a way to anchor the cable securely, it might work. You'd want to be real sure of it though before heading out on the water...

**edit the edit!**

Ok - I found a better pic of the setup on another boat...

That I'm not sure of. Maybe post the question in the Johnson engine forum? I was trying to see from the pic if your motor had a small diameter one low down above the clamps but even if so, it looks like it would be difficult to access give the surrounding decking on the boat.
