Attaching rub rail

For the rub rail below, would you put an aluminum strip inside, so the rub rail doesn't droop or pull away. Screws attaching the rub rail would go through the aluminum strip, spaced about 6" apart.

This rub rail is going on a swim platform, so I don't bang up the swim platform docking in windy conditions.

I think I would. Considering its going to live at the water line constantly, I would worry about the adhesive (alone) loosing its grab over time... I am guessing the outside edge is facing down in the picture and you can pull it apart to attach the fasteners?

Just trying to get my bearings..
