Re: attaching stringers to transom

I like to make stringer knees rather than a straight attachement. This make the transom much stronger and increase the bonding area between the stringers and transom.

I cut 8:1 scarf joints on the new and existing stringers when bonding them back together. I ran large fillets between the stringers and the transom/hull.

Here are some pics from my mako project.

Re: attaching stringers to transom

marine grade ply. They were bonded to the existing stringers, hull, and transom with a mixture of polyester resin, milled fibers, and cabosil. They were then glassed over with 3 overlapping layers of 1708 and 1 layer 1.5 oz mat.
