I asked this question last week but no answers yet. 1957 Evinrude 35hp, there's a green wire and black wire coming off the throttle shaft, both wires going up through the lower housing. Black wire is gounded, green wire is hanging loose with no apparent attach point? For a real seasoned O/B mechanic this is probably a no-brainer.

The 60s big twins had a neutral cut out switch that closed when the motor was in neutral to ground the starter solenoid to allow the operation of the electric start feature. Does the green wire trace back to the starting box and the starter solenoid?

You might move this to the J/E forum.

Re: Attempt #2 - 57 Lark Wiring Question

Sorry for the delayed reposne, I've been offline the past week. I'll take a closer look and see if that's where the wire is h eaded. And I'm new to to this forum, so as soon as I figure out what J/E is, I'll move to it. ;-)

Thanks again!

J/E means Johnson / Evinrude ;)

If you scroll down on the main page of the forums you will see a section for Johnson / Evinrude Outboards. The guys in there will probably have a better idea what that wire is and where is goes. They are the experts after all! :)

Hope this helps and good luck.

Found it. Makes sense. So many questions, so little time. ;-)

Thanks a bunch!
