Warden J.....

I was just looking thru craig's list and I came across the "Warden Johnson" which is now for sale and is now in berthed in Sausalito.

For the person's unfamilar with the vessel "Warden Johnson", this 65 foot wooden vessel was built by inmates in a California prison to transport prisoners between San Francisco and Alcatraz State Prison, AKA "The Rock."

Here is the for sale listing that was placed on craig's list for sale.

I have ridden on the Warden Johnson several times in the past when is was docked in the muni harbor in Redwood City, Ca. This harbor has has direct channel passage to San Francisco Bay and heading west, you will go under the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge, then the "San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge" and last but hardly least, The world famous "Golden Gate Bridge" and then into the Pacific Ocean.

Pretty old boat and in that part of the world, worth buying.

Wooden boats here in the Gulf South are a gamble because of worms. If the bottom paint has been kept up, they are usually OK, but a survey that includes hauling the boat is pretty much a must, around here.

I have to admit that I'd love to live on a boat like that. Wood sweats much less than fiberglass, steel or aluminum, so they make great liveaboards. They also have so much more character.

If not for the maintenance issues .....

It is a pretty boat. Oh, if I had the time and money to appreciate it.
