I see that Turning Point has changed their hub design for the Hustler series propellers. Looking in the Marine Mega Mall I did not see the new design offered.

As you might have guessed, I am an ower of the old style hub/housing. The new design has features that I find important, expecially the change to exhaust port size. I am anxious to see what the cost will be to change from old to new. I also need to know if it is advantagous to stay with the old design for a while. All of the Turning Point Hustler prop owners are probably interested in this info as well.

Can you find out for me:

1) when the new design hub/props are going to be offered?

2) will the existing stock of old hub/housings be offered at clearance prices?

3) will the old hub/housings continue to be offered along with the new design hub/housings.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Mark42

Edit: here is a link to the new hub/prop page at Turning Point: 2005 Hustler prop

Mark,
On the iboats Mega Mall homepage, there is a link at the bottom, "Contact us by email". You may want to send to that also.

Re: Attn Forum Monitors: When will iBoats offer the new 2005 Hustler props? UP

I wrote an e-mail to Turning Point about the change in the Hustler hub/housings and got the following response. Interestingly enough, their response is striaght up information without any sales propaganda pushing me toward their new product. I like that.

Hi Mark, the new hub design would not have any affect on your engine – you would have ample exhaust flow. The new in-lines, V4’s, V6’s and I/O’s will experience a difference primarily due to their being computer controlled. We are out of production on your hub/housing, but have planned on having supporting inventory for the remainder of this year. You may want to check out IBoats.com’s website if you want a spare.

Best wishes,

Dixon

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From: mark42

Sent: Wednesday, February 23, 2005 8:29 AM
To: sales@turningpointpropellers.com
Subject: New Hustler Design for 2005

Dear Sales,

I see the new Hustler hub/housing for 2005 claim more efficiency and increased hp due to improved exhaust flow. I would like to change from the old hub/housing to the new hub/housing but first would like to see your performance test results between the old and new. I currently use the Hustler 15 pitch prop on a 1993 Evinrude 40hp on a classic runabout. I believe it is important to know if the changes in design will be noticeable or not before making the investment.

After reading the info on the website, I am not clear on Turning Points plans to continue to produce replacement hubs/housings for the old design. Can you please clarify Turning Points plans in this area for me?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Mark
Boat Bouy and Ed, I will take your suggestion and forward my original questions directly to iBoats. Will keep you posted.

Mark

Great, so I bought these props for 2 of my motors, and replacement housings won't be available after this year.

This really ticks me off.

Why should we believe that they won't do the same with the 2005 design in a couple years. Screw em, I'll dump this Chinese crap on ebay and buy real props. Don't care if it costs me more, its the principle !!!

I may have to buy another prop housing. I have a new one on the motor now, and a spare that has not seen water yet. One more couldn't hurt. I'll see when they go on sale. iBoats has them marked down now, but I think they can go lower.

iBoats returned my e-mail. It goes like this:

"Thank you for contacting us! We will not be
offering the new style Hustler until after we
deplete the old inventory which will probably not be until at least half way through the season. We will indicate on our site when the new design will be sold.... "

I may or may not order another prop. Depends on if I order some other merchandise or not to combine the shipping costs.

Mark.

Re: Attn Forum Monitors: When will iBoats offer the new 2005 Hustler props? UP

Yes Ed F, performance wise, it works pretty well, but the housing and hub does have tendency to seize together. And my comparison was to a stock prop.

But, I believe the parts are labeled "made in China", maybe Korea, not sure. The fact that it is an American based company that sold their system based on having replacable housings available in the future, only adds to the angst I now feel toward them. This would be like Dell not offering replacements for their proprietory parts, or Mercury not offering replacement parts for their new Verado engines.

A company that abandones its customer base, deserves to be abandoned.

So, any replacement props for me, will be from a different company, propco, quicksilver, mich match, etc.

I've seen these props and hubs in Overton's.com clearance section. $60 hub or prop for $15.Not sure how many different sizes they have right now.

Not much at Overtons

2 Hubs on clearance for $15 and $30 (probably strange applications)

2 props (Housings), a 14x13 for $15 and a 13.75 x 15 for $40

Roscoe,
I see what you mean, but at these prices, are they really not supporting their client base? The hub and housing retail for about the same as a full replacement, and maybe they've fixed the seizing problem, making the new product superior.

Re: Attn Forum Monitors: When will iBoats offer the new 2005 Hustler props? UP

Sorry Ed, no they are not.
They may be selling some housings to a few buyers at a good price.

But are they informing the hub customers that they are buying a discontinued system and that no replacement housings will be available in a few months?

No they are not.

They marketed a prop system with a replacable housing.
Soon the replacement housings will not be available, some sizes are not available NOW (including one of mine). The hubs will probably not be available much longer either.

This is like Canon not supplying ink cartridges for your 1 year old printer.
Then telling you that you need to buy their new model printer and the new style ink cartridges.

What would you think if Ford told you that the new 2005 Explorer was a superior vehicle to the 2004 model, and therefore they will not be supplying replacement parts for the 2004 and older models?

Are you gonna trust them not to do the same thing in another year? I'm not gonna.

Re: Attn Forum Monitors: When will iBoats offer the new 2005 Hustler props? UP

I finally broke down and ordered another prop. $37 plus ship. Should hold me for another season or two. I figured at that price, better get one while the gettings good.

I understand them coming out with a better product. I would have been much happier if they just stopped selling the HUBS for the old system and kept producing the Housings for 2 or 3 years at the same prices. By not making new hubs, they would have marked the end of that product line, but could continue to support the current owner base for a few years. Plus save the cost of manufacturing a part specific to each application.

I don't think they handled this well at all.
