Hey,

I was told by a member of the iboats forums (MIKEY*2007) to get in touch with you about a boat my dad just picked up. He told me that you were not a fan of private messages so I decided to attach Attn: to a post instead.

We have had a good look over the engine for a serial number that we haven't been able to find in locations mentioned on a few websites and anywhere else.

I know the engine is a Mercury Blue-band 1500(P?) in-line 6 (2-stroke) with electric start, long shaft, thunderbolt ignition and also has an alternator. It also has a sticker on the rear of the engine that says (Timing 104 BTDC 21?) if that is any help.

We're desperately trying to work out what year model it is so we can find a service manual and maybe some parts we need to get it running again or if we ever decide that it needs a rebuild. (It looks fairly old, the fuel that came out of the tank had all sorts of crap in it.)

The parts were looking for at the moment are a Rotor button, Rotor, Distributor cap, Leads, Plugs (Complete Ignition) and a new Water pump kit including the lower and upper housing. We'd also like to know whether this model has a thermostat and if so where it would be mounted on the motor.

The engine was built betwwen 73 and 77 like all 150 inlines and blue band engines, so I can't help much on the year. Check the edge of the block to crankcase mating surface and there maybe a number stamped there or in a pad on the fuel pump side of the block. You don't really want to buy a cap and rotor if you don't have to. they are NLA and very expencive. First don't try to remove the rotor from the shaft they are cast on the shaft and will break. In most cases by using dish soap with hot water and a brush the cap and rotor can be cleaned, then when dry use a dremel brush to clean the metel contacts on then and replace the center carbon which can be purchaced through Mercury. Quite often the caps and rotors or complete distuters are on ebay. As far as a manual all 150 HP inlines are in the same manual from Mercury and probably are in the after market manuals, bite the bullet and buy the Mercury
