Otherwise the motors are quite similar in both the autopilot and universal sonar. I have no issues with either version. The V2 also has a small, round connector for the foot pedal whereas the original PD had a rather flat looking connector. The pedals are different and not interchangeable.

Thank you Silvertip!! I'm hoping mine is the PD version which I can update to the the AP especially after reading ST's post above. I'll post a link to picture's since I'm confused which I own (newbie owner and no manual) ..fingerscrossed

You do NOT have a V2. The plug in the first picture and the handle on the last picture, first row, are the key to telling whether or not you have a V2. I'm not sure if you can update a non-AUTOPILOT to an AUTOPILOT. You can convert to a COPILOT however. Are you sure you are not confusing the two terms. They are totally different functions.

Re: attn: Silvertip--Powerdrive Version help

One of the pics should show the Co-Pilot which I have and use but I'd really like to have the Auto-Pilot mainly because I fish alone alot so it's a feature which will be very handy for my situation (columbia and snake rivers) obviously I have the "PD" not the V2 but I interpreted your message to mean *some original PD units had the capability to be updated..I posted in a pic the model number so I'll give MK a call but usually I get better info here :)
I'm not sure what the market value is for my used 55/12v w/wo the CP add-on but buying a new PDV2 55-AP or Terrova 55-AP will sure put a hurt on my finances/budget/TARP bailout funds.

Re: attn: Silvertip--Powerdrive Version help

If I mislead you on the Auto-Pilot conversion I do apologize as that was not my intention. Autopilot has some extra electronics and I would expect that is not a "cheap" conversion or you would be able to buy the kits just like you can for "Co-pilot". The Co-pilot feature is $100 (approximate) so I would think it would at $60 - $70 bucks value on a used motor. If you have a Cabela's anywhere near you, check their Bargain Cave. They very often have Autopilot motors in the Cave. I will be visiting the Cabela's near me in the next day or so and will check there to see if they have any used ones. Prices are usually quite good.
