Re: Attorneys (class action Mercury(force) engine)

From what I'm reading, it sounds as some people have had some sort of problem with Force outboards.

Well, I'm glad they have a bad reputation. I found the used boat I had been looking for for 2 years, only 50 to 70 hours on it, galvanized trailer, and no one would buy it because of the Force on the back. Well the price went down, and down, and ...

3 months later I got the whole package for the value of the boat alone. I've had 3 years of use out of it and only had to do routine maintenance and replace an impeller.

I still love the boat, and when the Force fades away, I will repower and know that I got MORE than I paid for.

As for a law suit, I say we sue the lawyers. The are the ones that have driven up the base price of everything we buy. I shouldn't be forced to buy a truck with anti-lock breaks, multiply airbags, and all the other stuff that is now mandated into a new vehicle. But thanks to the lawyers, the manufacturers are forced to build them this way to cover their a**es.

anti lock brakes & air bags are now used as a marketing tool to sell vehicles & also to jack the prices of same. i can hear the car makers crying all the way to the bank.

Sea wolf..

I don't know if you have had any personal expierience with a Force or not, but no one is being suckered into anything. It is a motor without bells and whistles and the price refelcts that. Merc doesn't claim it is anything more. It is no more unsafe than any other outboard. Some motors are designed better than others, but again the price reflects that. If you want a superior motor then pay superior prices. If you don't and pay the lower price then don't complain. Forces were originally Chryslers, which at the time (1970's) were known to be good motors compared with the rest. The technology hasn't changed on the powerheads though. Compared with motors of today they will lag behind. What is interesting here is that I came across a forum last weekend based soley as a complaint board for how lousy late model Yamaha's are. "What?????" you say. "Yamaha a bad motor? I thought they are the best and never wear out!!!" The board is full of many bad things about Yamaha. Of course every post is from those who have had a problem with the motor. Does that mean a Yamaha is a bad motor? No it doesn't. It is a bunch of people who had bad luck with their motors, at least half probrably causing the problem in the first place, getting together to rant because they just cannot accept the fact that something broke on them. Not every motor, regardless of brand, is going to last 20 years, or even ten years for that matter. My point is I'm tired of hearing people blame others and knock manufacturers for everything bad that happens to them. Your motor burned up after you had it for 4 years? Things wear out. You had some bad luck. Maybe you didn't keep it maintained properly. S*** happens. Get over it.

Re: Attorneys (class action Mercury(force) engine)

well I didnt see this post so sorry I have to add my two sense in It is a shame that people always seems to blame "the other guy" for thier lot in life we should stand in the mirror and sometimes look at our selves and blame ourselves for our misgivings I have bought and sold dozens of boats and motors. Some were great some were not. I restored a 14 glass runabout with an old 33 hp ski twin many years ago It served me fine the engine worked no leaks in the boat great boat etc... I sold it to a chap no later then 2 weeks I had recieved several calls as to the poor quality I went to the house several times once to connect the battery properly once to show him how to use the shifter get the point really it is not mercury's fault we know that corporations are interested in profit thats all and due to something called risk management they factor most issues into the bigger picture.. So if you have bought a USED product the simple rule, buyer beware as for force well sloopy says it best but those who know, know better and will maintain a motor that is shaky at best.. It is not mercurys fault you have a lemon it is yours so please stop whining save some money go see the bank and buy the motor you want. if you can't afford it buy a manual ask lots of questions here and believe it or not that motor will probubly last you a long time. i have had guys here take an old evinrude of mine almost on its last legs and have that motor as good as new believe me Im a fisherman not a qualified marine mechanic so if I can repair and fumle so can you The people here have made me behave in a different fashion twards my motor i actually care about them now maybe they can do the same for you. If at the end of it all you decide to get ride of it maybe that might be better boating is not for everyone maybe you can go back to school become a lawyer and afford to have qualified marine mechanics repair your boats regardless of the costs but to put forward the idea of a class action suit thats crazy

Maybe you have realized that this was not such a good post for you after all and you can edit it all turn your efforts to something productive and ask some questions Ill ask you first what is the problem with the motor maybe we can help you>????

What captain Bob said..Besides, my 1989 Force is running like a well-tuned Lambourgini.
But this is indicative of what is wrong with our legal system. And we should fix it before it's too late.
Hot coffee burns skin.
Winabago cruise controls are not auto pilots.
Hamburgers are not wieght loss sandwiches.
Cigarettes can and do cause cancer.
Atorneys make 300 buks an hour. I make 18.How does somebody fight that?
There is a large gap between a just trial and a frivolous one. And it is obvious to most people, who then are flabergasted by the whole show! "OJ Simpson, son of Homer, protect me from these super-bright, super gready lawyers, or else I'm a gomer", as the song goes.

It s a fact that 80% of all attornies are registered as democrat..not that there is anything WRONG with that, but I thought it might be of interest to include
News at 11

Re: Attorneys (class action Mercury(force) engine)

I second Captain Bob - the two class actions that I was inadvertantly involved in resulted in the following - The first one I rec'd a discount coupon, the lawyers rec'd 2.4 million. The second time I rec'd a coupon for $5.00 off my next purchase of 150.00, the lawyers rec'd 1.7 million. Neither company admitted any wrongdoing and strangely enough, in each case, the lawyers opted for cash as opposed to coupons....

Ha, ha, ha, that's funny, a whole $5. I just received a notice of settlement on a class action suit against a major life insurance company, my settlement is an extra death bonus, BUT only if I die in the next 6 months. I gotta think this one over, and quickly, the wife is already thinking, guess I better sleep with one eye open.
