I have a problem with my audio warning alarm on my 2001 mercruiser 4.3L EFI gen+ engine. It is the EFI version with MEFI 3 ECM. So it is not a simple analog circuit like the carburated version with only a couple sensors opening and closing the circuit ground to the alarm. It is a ECM controlled alarm with multiple sensors going to the ecm, and the ecm decides when it should ground the alarm and make it beep. The alarm itself works, because when key is turned to on position, alarm beeps two times within two seconds or so. But i have tried everything to test the alarm and i can't get it to beep when i want it to.

To try to test the alarm, I shorted the blue wire that usually goes to the oil pressure alarm switch to ground, nothing. After that, I also shorted the tan/white wire going to the gear lube reservoir to ground, also nothing. I have tested continuity of both said wires to the ECM J1 and J2 connectors, everything looks good there. Only thing left would be the MEFI 3 ECM itself?? but the boat drives fine on water , the ecm works fine for everything else. I am at a loss now and don't know what to do next because info for the MEFI 3 version of the audio warning alarm is really scarce on the web. Thanks to all that can help!!

Couple of things…
Can’t assume they’re switching ground to initiate an alarm.

Alarms typically have multiple dependencies.
Pull the wire from oil sensor while running

According to the schematic in the service manual, they do short to ground to initiate alarm. See attached picture

To test the alarm, find the engine harness to EFI connector. It's a 4 or 5 pin flat connector on top the motor. Then find the Tan/blue wire and ground it
