Hello all!

I’m wiring my bilge with a float for backup. I want a on-off dash switch where I can turn on to manually activate bilge and when the switch is off, the bilge is controlled by the float. I’m planning on using a 5 pin relay for this where terminal 87 will go to bilge pump and 87a will go to float switch then to pump. When you turn on the dash switch, relay (will close and manually activate bilge. When I turn off switch 87a will close and the float becomes the “switch”. I attached a diagram. Will this work? I’m 99.9% sure it will, but I want to get a second look.

thanks!

How big is your pump? Less than 5 amps? Typical pumps are, Rule 1100 GPH = 4amp

And your dash switch rating? 5/10 amps? Usually they are........

Personally, I would not add a relay unless you're over current somewhere in the above.

P.S. Never (not that you intended too) use/wire a bilge switch to use a "off" position........Not a wise idea IMO.

No relay
Two position switch (manual/auto) with light for monitoring.
Should be wired directly to battery

Yea I way overthought this whole thing with the relay. I’m just going to do the on-off switch using the instructions in that link. A lot easier. I don’t want to use the on-off-on switch because there is a chance the wife or kids could accidentally turn the whole system off just by putting the switch in the “off” position. With the on-off, it’s error proof. Plus the light will come on both when it’s in manual and when the float activated.

If I want to disable the entire system for some reason, I can pull the fuse.

thanks everyone!
