Mine is a 1980 230hp 350 and i may need a new block. Will it have to be a 1 piece rear main seal or a 2 piece rear main seal? Also does it have to be close to the same year as mine?

the new crate 350/290HP from GM has always been and is is still 2 pc rear main (old school like pre-1987)
So if you want you can buy new, or look for a used crate -they sell lots of those motors.
But generally, 2 pc rear main 350's are about as rare as mosquitos in Winnipeg

I just replaced mine with a gm crate 350 with the 2 piece rear main. Picked up a brand new one for $1552 from my local gm dealer.
